Many people do not know how to use their backs properly in every day life. Knowing how to perform activities in correct manner will help prevent low back pain (LBP) incidence. This study was conducted to determine if there are any differences in knowledge of doing daily activities correctly between LBP and NON-LBP people.
A validated multiple choice questionnaire containing some graphics asking correct and incorrect activities and positions was used to assess the level of the sample’s awareness. Questions were about sitting, standing ,driving, lifting , carrying and working.604 people suffering from LBP (as case group)and the same number without LBP who were statistically matched (as control group) were selected to complete the questionnaire.
70.1 % of responses in LBP and 66.8 % in control group were correct. Mann-Whitney U test showed that there were no significant difference of knowledge between two groups (P=0.595).
It was found that there was no relationship between LBP and knowledge about correct back usage in different activities. It is recommended that further studies be conducted on how much education about back care is effective to prevent LBP.
