Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the high risk pregnancies rate in an educational and referral hospital in Kermanshah city in Iran in 2002-2003.
Material and Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study .15653 pregnant women's files investigated for finding high risk pregnancies rate in an educational hospital from October 2002 to December 2003.This hospital is a referral center in Obstetrics and Gynecology in kermanshah province at west area of Iran country .
Findings: 20.1 of mothers had at least one risk factor in pregnancy. 13.o6 of them had less than 20 years old and 14.24 of them 35 years old or more. There were 30.6 abortions , 14.2 pre eclampsia and 0.5 eclampsia , 11.8 preterm and 2.4 post term labor, 7.0 malpresentations , 4.4 third trimester hemorrhage , 4.0 premature rupture of membrane,1.2 amniotic fluid disorders and finally 0.1 reduction of fetal movements .
CONCLUSION: This study showed that one of five mothers had a high risk pregnancy .Maybe that was due to a referral hospital and also poor prenatal care. Review of the prenatal care programs is necessary for maternal and child health promotion.
