Therefore the present study aimed to determine the current frequency of influenza vaccine uptake and its relationships with socioeconomic status in Iranian elderly people. Methods: Through a cross-sectional study using multistage sampling, 1350 Iranian elderly people (≥60 years) were investigated. A self-report questionnaire including influenza vaccine uptake in the past year and socioeconomic status factors was applied to data collection using a faceto-face interview. Chi Square and a multiple logistic regression analysis were applied to detect the factors related to influenza vaccine uptake. Results: In general, influenza vaccine uptake was 10.4 percent in the past year. There was a significant relationship between orderly's influenza vaccine uptake in the past year with the current job, educational level, ethnicity, source of income, receiving money from relatives, satisfied with income, type of health insurance and complementary insurance for non-hospital services but not with age, gender, marital status, residential area and having health insurance. After adjusting for desired variables, the variables of the current job, satisfied with income and complementary insurance for non-hospital services remained significantly related with higher influenza vaccine uptake. Conclusion: The frequency of influenza vaccine uptake in Iranian elderly is low and it is more related to job, income and health and complementary insurance. Providing a higher salary for retired elderly and an efficient health insurance for other elderly to receive influenza vaccine are recommended. |
